How to grow chili (part 3 - Planting)
Assalamualaikum, meet us again to
continue on how to grow chillies.
For this session I will present about
how to grow chillies in the field and in polybags/pots.
First
of all we need to find the site
Crop sites are mandatory criteria before
undertaking any planting or agricultural activities.
Among the features that must be present
for each site are:
- rather wide/not too narrow
- equal squares or elongated plots,
bends are prohibited as it will complicate planting activities.
- must not be protected from sunlight.
- not easily submerged/flooded, make sure
all drainage works properly.
- not exposed to crop pests such as
foxes, goats, cows and so on.
- close to the road
- easy access to water and electricity
- clean environment to avoid extreme
insect disturbance.
How
to prepare the site in Polybags/Vases and Other Containers
Use cocopeat, fill the cocopeat into a
polybag. use 100%cocopeat.
OR
Use a soil mixture containing 3 parts
soil, 1 part rotten chicken manure or compost and 1 part sand. Fill the pot
with the soil mixture up to 5 cm (2 inches) from the surface of the pot
How
to Plant in Pots and Other Containers
Seedlings can be changed after 4 weeks
of sowing in the tray. Each vase or polybag needs to be filled with one/two
trees only, but I only recommend 1 tree for 1 polybag only. The distance for
the tree is 90cm between the trees and 1.2 meters between the lines.
