Side income

Recently I visited my friend's Fertigation orchard to share opinions and knowledge located in Bachok District. I found his fertigation yields very encouraging and he had participated in several expos to introduce fertigation crops to visitors and the community. The planting site located on Beris Kubur Besar road has also taken several approaches by planting Bengal Chillies. He was successful in producing the crop.

Therefore, I think that this Fertigation Plant if practiced diligently and according to the correct method, it may be one of the lucrative sources of income. I see that he never gave up by using some of his own methods to increase his crop yield. I once asked him about the gross income earned around RM7000.00-RM10000.00 per month with a planting project of 1 acre at the initial stage.

By providing several services including filling the medium of serkam and coconut fiber into polybags for the use of his customers makes the effort to earn side income fruitful. I also consider him so committed to the results of his efforts because besides planting fertigation crops he also has other income with transportation services and sales at RTC Tunjung Market, Kelantan

No wonder he has now expanded his business with the addition of flowering plants by fertigation to attract many fertigation enthusiasts from all groups of men and women. I also always review his project site so that I can get views and opinions from him.

How to grow chili (part 3 - Planting)

Assalamualaikum, meet us again to continue on how to grow chillies.

For this session I will present about how to grow chillies in the field and in polybags/pots.

First of all we need to find the site

Crop sites are mandatory criteria before undertaking any planting or agricultural activities.

Among the features that must be present for each site are:

- rather wide/not too narrow

- equal squares or elongated plots, bends are prohibited as it will complicate planting activities.

- must not be protected from sunlight.

- not easily submerged/flooded, make sure all drainage works properly.

- not exposed to crop pests such as foxes, goats, cows and so on.

- close to the road

- easy access to water and electricity

- clean environment to avoid extreme insect disturbance.

How to prepare the site in Polybags/Vases and Other Containers

Use cocopeat, fill the cocopeat into a polybag. use 100%cocopeat.

OR

Use a soil mixture containing 3 parts soil, 1 part rotten chicken manure or compost and 1 part sand. Fill the pot with the soil mixture up to 5 cm (2 inches) from the surface of the pot

How to Plant in Pots and Other Containers

Seedlings can be changed after 4 weeks of sowing in the tray. Each vase or polybag needs to be filled with one/two trees only, but I only recommend 1 tree for 1 polybag only. The distance for the tree is 90cm between the trees and 1.2 meters between the lines.

How to grow chillies (sowing seeds)

Assalamualaikum,

Meet us again today to learn the second part in how to grow chillies.

First of all we need 4 basic materials for sowing work, the materials are:-

1. Seeds (I chose F1 568 Seeds)

2. Nursery tray

3. Nursery media

4. Bottle sprayer

How to sow,

1. Soak the seeds in a container of water, the water used must be filtered water, or better yet use bottled mineral water. the seeds should be soaked for 8 hours or overnight to facilitate the process of seed germination. here I emphasize that, we will not use any pesticides for the treatment of seeds. this is because poison is something dangerous even though it is said to be safe to use.

2. Prepare a nursery tray. The tray shown is an 82 -hole nursery tray. for everyone's knowledge, you can also use empty/small containers if you want to sow a few seeds only.

3. Fill the tray hole with nursery media, fill up to full or 3/4 only, for everyone's knowledge, nursery media are sold in agricultural shops and supermarkets around where you live.

you also do not need to buy nursery media in large packs, because in agricultural stores have provided nursery media in small bags.

4. Strain/toss the seeds that have been soaked earlier. leave the seeds to dry (do not over -dry), once dry, put the seeds into the nursery tray, 1 seed per hole or 2 seeds per hole. avoid placing too many seeds in one hole. this can cause the tree to be stunted/slow to grow. for those who do not use a nursery tray, the seeds must be spaced 5cm apart from each other. After the seeds are placed, sprinkle a little nursery media on the seeds. make sure the seeds are not in a state that is too deep.

5. After finishing the above, spray mineral water/filtered water on the nursery tray using a sprinkler/bottle sprayer. nursery tray should be watered 2-3 times a day. make sure the tray is always moist.

6. Place the tray in the sun, do not place the tray in a dark area.

7. The seeds will germinate in 3-7 days.

8. The seedlings are ready to be transferred into pots or polybags after 25 days.
